I've never been part of a winning pub quiz team. Until tonight. Got drafted into a Shooting People pub quiz this evening, in Charing Cross Road's rather sizeable Montagu Pyke hostelry (formerly the legendary Marquee club, pop-pickers). It was a fun event, well organised and with good humour - even if the Pyke's technically less than ideal, with bad acoustics and a layout which doesn't exactly aid mingling. But you guessed it: we, The Development Pool, won. Hooray! My individual winnings were a DVD of Guide To Recognising Your Saints, an issue of Moviescope and - clearly the best bit - a year's extension to my Shooting People membership.
So how does networking dovetail into it all? Well, I was invited by the lovely Sarah Colley, a script reader and editor who I met at the Cheltenham Screenwriter's Festival. During this evening, I met more Nice People. Including a Nice Producer, who asked if I fancied working on a short horror script with him. So we'll see how that goes. But that's the joy of business card-swapping. You never know where it'll take you. Much like writing itself...
